Seedlings arrive today! And more details on planting

Little Forests Kingston

Seedlings arrive today!

The trucker will call me about an hour before they’re due to arrive and Maureen will notify everyone who signed up for sorting or transport. We’re not yet sure how long sorting will take (Verbinnen’s is dividing the vplugs in the boxes with each layer including a few tags) but looks like we have a great group of people signed up to help.

We’ll need to label the individual trees as we sort. Joanne is bringing china markers & I’ll bring old aluminum blinds we can cut up. If anyone has other materials useful for labelling, bring them.

We’re receiving four skids of plants total, with some in 1 gallon containers and the remainder in vplugs (which air prune the roots as the seedling grows).

Food

Lunch will be provided on Saturday October 23 at HWY 15 and Wolfe Island and Sunday October 24 at Lakeside, but bring your own if you prefer.

A couple of people asked if it’s ok to bring cookies or other treats… yes please!

Bring your own plate, bowl, and cutlery.

Other things to bring

  • Chairs to sit on (especially at HWY 15 as there is limited seating)

  • Sun/rain shelter if you have one

  • Video equipment if you’d like to capture the day

Call to artists

Sandra, Priya, Jill and Clarke have been working on celebrating the planting. Priya says “we’d like to encourage artists to create anything they’d like based on what moves them during planting. If you’d like to participate, bring art supplies depending on your preferred medioum (such as paint, canvas, musical instruments, etc.)

Sign up to help

If you haven’t yet signed up but are planning on coming out to help, fill in this form so we know when and where you’ll be there. All the sites are gridded in one metre squares and ready to plant!
